Last night at dinner Thing 1 excitedly announced that she would be home for Muffin Tin Monday and she was very happy to be a part of it. Then she asked if we would be doing a President's Day Muffin Tin (she's getting too smart). Of course, I thought that was a splendid idea and we set out to think of things to represent different presidents from over the years. Here's what we came up with:Lincoln Logs (Hot Dogs) for Abraham Lincoln
Roasted Potatoes for our Irish descended John F. Kennedy
Adams Apples for our father/son team of John Adams and John Quincy Adams
Bush's Baked Beans for our other father/son team of George Bush and George W. Bush
French Fries for our French Revolution/Human Rights supporter Thomas Jefferson
Peanuts for our peanut farmer Jimmy Carter
Mike and Ikes for our "I Like Ike" Dwight D. Eisenhower
Teddy Bear biscuits for Theodore Roosevelt
Jelly Bellies - the favorite candy of Ronald Reagan
Grant Crackers for Ulysses S. Grant
Cherries for our cherry tree choppin' George Washington
and a saxophone shaped cheese for our saxophone playing Bill Clinton
WHEW!
We talked about them all as we ate our lunch, don't think the kids will remember it all, but it is a start.
I was looking for the personal card I received from President Reagan. My mom was friends with one of his personal staffers and we were able to get a little Get Well Soon card and package of Jelly Bellies to him as he was recovering after being shot. I was lucky enough to get a personal note back from him, I thought that would be nice to add to this post, but I couldn't find it right away, I think I know where it is, but I can't get to it easily.
Instead, I found this little surprise, I thought these were long gone!!! And no, I'm not letting my kids play with them. Hee hee - how fun!

I LOVE your muffin tin idea. Wish my kids were still little and living at home. Wait...did I say that out loud? I really didn't mean it.
