Off to School ... It's That Time Already!

Like usual, summer just FLEW by. Part of me is kind of glad this year, since our summer has been offically dubbed, "The Lost Summer". (I won't share the other names we came up with, though!) We started off with my crazy heavy work load that took over the first two weeks of vacation. Then, Thing 2 got sick and that took over the next four weeks of vacation. Then the sewer drain backed up and that took over the past 5 weeks and possibly a few more to come!

Anyhow, I LOVE autumn, and this year I am very glad to see it come.

And as I sent the girls off to school this morning, I was taken back by how much it felt like autumn. I don't know if that means we are just having a cooler day, or that autumn really is going to come quickly. But that crisp fresh morning air was the most rejuvenating thing I have experienced for a while. It filled my soul as much as it filled my lungs, and it left me feeling powered up and ready to go.

And these little cuties helped, too:

Here's Thing 1:

And Thing 2:

And then (sniff, sniff) The Boy:
(yes, he started the big K today - I can't believe it)

Trying to get this guy to give me a good pose proved to be too much to ask.

But then I caught a glimpse of who he is to me ... that's my boy!

And don't tell the girls, but we went out for a little lunch date before I took him to school.

We mostly just laughed at the King and all his craziness.

Then it came time to take him to school. He found his seat and sat down and then, he basically just FROZE!!! I kind of giggled. Here is the crazy, rough-and-tumble, in your face kind of a kid I've always known, now basically paralyzed by the newness of it all.

And despite it all, I think he'll do great! (Doesn't he look awesome?)

And The King and I saved our tears until the walk through the parking lot and the drive home.

I think the first day of kindergarten is such a hard day. K was fine but I cried:) I still every year and he's in 7th grade. Pitiful I know, but I also know that grade won't come again. This was the first year however I didn't go in the school on the first day, sniff, sniff. What will you do with only one kid at home? I'm sure you'll find something to do:)
