"The love of a single heart can make a world of difference."
~ Immaculee Ilibagiza
This week I read a book that has been on my list for a while:
I am listing this as a "MUST READ" for everyone,
along with a book I read a little over a year ago:
by Paul Rusesabagina (the inspiration for the movie "Hotel Rwanda").
I am almost ashamed to admit to how much I learned from reading these books. I was finishing my Junior year of my University studies when this civil war took place. Sadly, I don't even remember seeing news stories or even being slightly aware of the genocide occurring in Rwanda at the time.
Learning about this tragic event has been very sobering. I need to be so much more aware of the events taking place in our world. Although we are oceans apart, we are all brothers and sisters, no human life has value above another, and I can do better to be a force for good in this world. I am convinced that the world would be a better place if we could learn from the atrocities that have taken place so that they are NEVER repeated. There have been too many times throughout our history where man has attacked man with such savage brutality that humanity must have seemed all but lost. It needs to stop. I weep for those who have suffered in such a way, and especially for those who are currently suffering.
I long for the day when peace covers the earth.
Until then I will try to be aware of what is going on around the earth,
so that I can pray for those in need, near and far.
How grateful I am for the safety and peace that has blessed my life so abundantly.

I really need to read those books. I am embarrassed to say I know very little of that situation! I love their portraits. Thank you for the wonderful book recommendations!

That is such a tragic and powerful story, and what a great quote to make change feel possible! Love it :)
That sounds like an incredible story!
I have a really hard time reading things like this, but I agree. It is good to be aware of the things that are happening in the world, and do what we can to stop them.
